How To Maintain A Comfortable Work-Life Balance (Even When You're Busy)

Updated: Jan 6, 2023

I'm sharing 3 tips for maintaining a comfortable work-life balance along with some of my personal experiences in creating a comfortable and healthy balance for myself.

The 3 Work-Life Balance Tips we'll cover:

In order to tell you how to maintain a comfortable and healthy work-life balance I want to tell you a little bit about myself first. I am a website designer and the name of my company is PC Media Techs. It was an up-and-down struggle for me as a website designer trying to figure out the best way to position my company and my personal my brand for a while. If you are one of my tech queens, boss ladies, or men, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. It's like a rollercoaster in the beginning, until you find your balance, and then... it's a new rollercoaster! You just have to learn how to balance it all out and maintain your balance.

When I first started my business, I used to work so much, I would work late nights I would work weekends and I eventually realized that I was actually working in my business and I wasn't really laying the foundation like I should have been. I started my business in 2015 (when I got my first real client that wasn't a friend or family member). I began to grow from there and eventually I realized that I really needed to have a stronger foundation. What that meant for me is developing consistent accounting and human resources practices and other behind-the-scenes stuff on the backend.

These tips are going to protect you from getting stuck in some of the same cycles that I once found myself in.

1. Establishing a Solid Foundation

Whether or not you have contractors, team members, or an assistant make sure that you create processes and put procedures in place for all your day-to-day operations as if you do. Depending on how big you're trying to grow you need a solid process set up for things like promotions, accounting, new hires, and whatever else you think of that's outside of what you do to make money. Learn to handle these things just as effectively as you're handling the area that you specialize in until you have the budget to hire someone else to do it for you.

2. Don't Neglect your Personal Goals and Desires

The goal is to create a personal life that thrives just as much as you desire your business to. So take the time to be preventative about your health, rest, have fun, and work on personal things like self-development, spiritual alignment, and mental health.

As I continued to grow, I eventually started to take more personal time for myself. Nowadays, I rarely stay up all night working unless I'm working on a big project here and there. I don't work on weekends at all. I can't remember when the last time I worked on the weekend was. Regardless if your business requires you to work late nights or over the weekend, we need to be intentional about taking that time for ourselves to do whatever we enjoy doing for fun. It's so important! I understand in the beginning you may have had to be a workaholic to get yourself to a comfortable position. So, if you're entering into the high growth phase or you're already in the high growth phase don't neglect yourself, because you are equally important.

3. Be Reasonable with Yourself and the People that Choose to Work With You

Here's what being reasonable with yourself realistically looks like

I used to let potential clients call me whenever they wanted to either because I was trying to get the next sale or wanted to keep them happy. But at the end of the day, I had to realize that this was knocking me off balance. There are many solutions out there for this and a lot of other things that I was doing in the beginning. I had to change my intake process for my mental health's sake and so that I could create and maintain my balance. You have to be the judge to realize where the thin lines are for you.

I want you to ask yourself:

What certain things am I doing, how am I operating, and what am I allowing that may be causing me to get off balance?

Write it down.

Make the necessary adjustments.

Here's what being reasonable with the people that choose to work with you (including customers and clients) realistically looks like

Now, if it's one of my team members or somebody that's a contractor with me and we're working on a big project they know they can call me because it's important to me. To me, that's urgent. I'll make an exception to the rule as long as it's something that can't wait for me to check an email or text or for them to enter it into our team communication system so I can see it later. You'll also need a well-defined process for your customers and potential customers depending on what different options you offer.

The Point of Balancing It All Out

The main reason is to create and maintain a comfortable work-life balance so that you can make room for more opportunities. I've been able to substantially grow my business to a point where I feel like we now have a more solid foundation. I've been able to align my Tech Queen brand with my website design agency, PC Media Techs, and I'm also becoming a new author (Although I did technically publish our Vision to Life Quarterly Master Planner last year). I'm not mentioning these or anything else that I share with you to brag. I'm mentioning them because I just want to show you that it's possible to get more done while working less. Oh, and also because I'm also just so freaking proud of myself 🤩!

We're all about creating products that encourage you to be preventative and maintain a good comfortable work-life balance. That's what it's all about! You don't have to sacrifice one for the other. You can have it all. You deserve it!
